“Next-Generation” jazz instrumentalists and vocalists will present iconic songs from the ‘20s to the ‘50s as first popularized by Ella Fitzgerald, Frank Sinatra, Judy Garland and other icons, from “See See Rider”—first sung by Ma Rainey [1886-1939]—to Holiday’s 1941 “God Bless The Child.” From George Gershwin (“I Loves Ya, Porgy”) and Cole Porter (“So In Love”) to Harold Arlen’s 1939 “Over The Rainbow,” “Songs We Love” is only the latest theme of JALC Manager and Artistic Director Wynton Marsalis, following “Jazz & Democracy,” “Jazz & The Great Migration” and “Jazz & Civil Rights.” His “Let Freedom Swing” has reached half a million students with 3,000+ shows worldwide.
