He told Jim Testa at NJ.com, “I started taking guitar lessons at 12 or 13 but wound up quitting at least a dozen times. I was so frustrated. My hands wouldn’t do what they were supposed to do. I just wasn’t getting it. And then one day it was just, `Eureka!’ It all fell into place. I started writing my own songs at around 17 or 18.”
