Alabama Pianist-Vocalist Johnny O’Neal, 69, moved to New York City in 1981 to work with Clark Terry during a Blue Note residency where he backed Dizzy Gillespie, Ray Brown, Nancy Wilson, Joe Pass and Kenny Burrell. He was a member of Art Blakey & The Jazz Messengers in ’82 and ’83, and made his Carnegie Hall debut in ’85.
