Before the May 3 release of their self-titled Americana album, the husband-wife team of Pete Damore and Crys Hariu-Damore—known collectively as Ordinary Elephant—will perform in Hunterdon County at the Frenchtown Bookshop. Legendary folksinger Tom Paxton says, “there is nothing at all ordinary with this elephant. This is rich ground. Listen!” Between their lush harmonies and intricate acoustic guitar work, songs like “Once Upon A Time”—written during the pandemic—bespeak a subdued eloquence. Crys says, “the quiet set in amongst the unknown and the anxiety, and we were suddenly thrust into a new world on our Louisiana back porch. We realize now that in times of intense uncertainty throughout history, we, as humans, turn to story for comfort, assurance and direction. We wrote `Once Upon A Time’ in the quiet, feeling helpless and scared and searching for safety and truth.”
