Supporting the September 8 release of his Gulf Coast Records debut, Live At G. Bluey’s Juke Joint NYC, Popa Chubby—The Beast From The East—will hit Long Branch running with his usual hard-ass aplomb. You can be sure he’ll twist Neil Young’s 1978 “Motorcycle Mama” into a blues-rock pretzel. He’s known for taking diametrically-opposed slices of culture—from Leonard Cohen’s 1984 “Hallelujah” and Tom Waits’ 1980 “Heart Attack And Vine” to Nino Rota’s 1972 “Godfather Theme (Speak Softly Love)” and Harold Arlen’s 1939 “Over The Rainbow” and make them all come out totally Chubby.
