He can play it all from ragtime and blues to bop and swing. Spike Wilner was the house pianist at the iconic Manhattan venue Village Gate, now defunct. In ’95, he began gigging at an uptown NYC spot, Small’s (check out his Late Night album) where he still gigs on Sundays with his Planet Jazz sextet. Wilner also performs in such ghost bands as the Artie Shaw Orchestra, the Glenn Miller Orchestra and Maynard Ferguson’s Big Bop Nouveu. He’s worked with Wynton Marsalis on a ballet and even served as Tony Bennett’s rehearsal piano man. His two shows this Saturday at Brvsh Cul7ur3 (pronounced brash culture) on Cedar Lane in Teaneck are at 8:00 and 9:30.
