Stevie Van Zandt and the Disciples of Soul

Van Zandt has to be the busiest guy in show business. Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band finishes up the first leg of its mammoth tour April 14 in Newark. He will then be honored April 15 at the first annual American Music Honors within Monmouth University’s Pollak Theatre in West Long Branch. But on this night, he’ll be “reinventing songs from his two most recent LPs, 2017’s Soulfire and 2019’s acclaimed Summer of Sorcery, as well as fan favorites spanning his iconic career, with newly updated live arrangements. The performance will be captured for a new concert film—Little Steven and the Disciples of Soul Present SORCERY & SOULFIRE Live! At The Basie!—to be released later this year,” according to the Van Zandt camp.  I can tell you from personal experience that this is one great rockin’ band, and they haven’t performed live since before the pandemic. Van Zandt, when leading this band, unlike his E Street duties, goes into larger-then-life entertainer mode with every movement, guitar howl and vocal yell.
