Right on the Kean University main campus, Jamaican Jazz Legend Monty Alexander, 82, will introduce his new protégé, Marel Hidalgo, at 3:00 in the afternoon within the intimate Enlow Recital Hall. Alexander almost single-handedly ushered in the Jamaican Ska Movement with historic recordings over many decades. His sound directly influenced Bob Marley plus Toots & The Maytals. Hidalgo was born and raised down the shore and is only 17, yet he’s been called “the new torchbearer of Jamaican Jazz.”
