Raw Cuts: Volume III

As we wait for Director Fulvio Cecere's upcoming The Jersey Sound documentary, here's snippets of four "Raw Cuts" of interviews Fu conducted with Robert “Kool” Bell, Ron “Bumblefoot” Thal, Williams Honor, and Jake Thistle.

Robert “Kool” Bell

Fifty-seven years after the formation of Kool and the Gang, Perfect Union, their first new album in a decade, is a total delight!

Williams Honor

Who says pure dyed-in-the-wool country can’t come from the Jersey Shore? Reagan Richards was the go-to voice for the legendary icon Les Paul with whom she spent four years. She honed her chops as a background singer for Darlene Love, Ben E. King and Bobby Bandiera. Now it’s time for her to make some waves in the duo Williams Honor with Gordon Brown.

Ron “Bumblefoot” Thal

It’s been over 25 years of singing, composing, producing and playing the kind of lead guitar most of us only dream of. He fronts Asia. He plays guitar for super-group Sons Of Apollo with Mike Portnoy, Derek Sherinian, Billy Sheehan and Jeff Scott Soto. His credits read like a who’s who of Modern Rock. From 2011 to 2017, he was the lead guitarist for Art Of Anarchy with Velvet Revolver’s Scott Weiland [1967-2015], Creed’s Scott Strap and Disturbed’s John Moyer. From 2006 to 2014, he blasted fans with electrifying solos on his fretless guitar in Guns N’Roses. His compositions are all over TV, movies and video games. He’s also an educator, camp counselor and philanthropist. Oh, and have you tasted his hot sauce?

Jake Thistle

This Paramus kid is primed and ready to lead a revival of the classic 1970s singer-songwriter aesthetic. His future is solid gold. And he’s only 18!

Mike Greenblatt

MIKE GREENBLATT has been writing for Goldmine magazine and New Jersey's Aquarian Weekly for more than 35 years. His writing subjects fill the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

He's interviewed Joe Cocker, Graham Nash, David Crosby, Carlos Santana, Bruce Springsteen, Paul McCartney, Johnny Cash, and members of The Rolling Stones and The Beatles. He was 18 when he attended Woodstock in 1969.

In addition to writing about music, Greenblatt has worked on publicity campaigns for The Animals, Pat Benatar, Johnny Winter, Tommy James and Richard Branson, among others. He is currently the editor of The Jersey Sound.
