Meet… Bobby Syvarth

Deep in the wilds of Morris County there’s a small place called Jefferson Township. In 2007, singer-songwriter Bobby Syvarth was a long way away from this hometown of his as he was in the process of recording in the sacred Southern California foothills of Laurel Canyon with producer Bruce Witkin on his debut for Unison Records, a label that the producer had started with Johnny Depp. Hellos and Goodbyes never really went anywhere but the bug bit Bobby. The songwriting bug. Fifteen years later, his sophomore effort, Silver Lake Boulevard, finally came out last year filled with his creations, two of which featured two members of jazz legend Phil Woods’ quartet, Bill Goodwin and Tony Marino. The album’s “California” single was filmed by Oscar winning cinematographer Jessica Young, with producer Tim Carbone directing.

Bobby Syvarth’s new single, “I Like,” with Elliott Peck on vocals, will come out April 28. He wrote it in the ‘90s for his ’97 Alive At Sarah Street album. In 2020, he recorded a studio version of the song in Damian Calcagne’s PineBox Studio in Boonton, also in Morris County. Its swampy Little Feat-inspired vibe was sidetracked by the pandemic but it’s all systems go now.
