A Night Of Les Paul Music June 7 at Ramapo College
The Mahwah Museum in Bergen County will host a night of Les Paul music June 7 at Ramapo College. Paul, the longtime guitarist-luthier-composer-inventor, who lived in Mahwah for many years with wife/duet partner Mary Ford, pioneered the solid-body electric guitar. He also pioneered overdubbing, tape-delay and multi-track recording. “The 110th Birthday Celebration Concert,” from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m., will take place at Ramapo College of New Jersey’s H-Wing Auditorium, 505 Ramapo Valley Road in Mahwah. Paul, who died at 94 in 2009, will have his music interpreted from three distinctively different angles.
Dani Zanoni and Alex Kerssen perform as DnA.
The Ed Laub Quartet—with pianist Jerry Vezza, bassist Hal Slapin and drummer John Vourtsis—features Laub’s vocals and seven-stringed guitar. Laub played with another New Jersey legend, Bucky Pizzarelli [1926-2020], and now does Brazilian-styled versions of “The Great American Songbook.”
Tom and Sandy Doyle have a unique relationship with Les Paul’s music as Tom was Paul’s right-hand man for 45 years. Sandy fulfills the Mary Ford role, harmonizing and adding to the inside stories of her husband.
