Above The Moon is ‘The Only One’

Morris County sometimes rings with rock’roll angst when the members of Above The Moon practice its new single, “The Only One.” Drummer John Gramuglia calls the group “a straight-up suburban New Jersey rock band. No bells or whistles, not even a backing track. We pride ourselves on delivering tight live performances with big guitars, loud drums and high energy.

“`The Only One’ is such a fun song to me because it’s quick,” he continues. “The lyrics are quintessential Kate.” (He’s enthusing about singer-songwriter-guitarist Kate Griffin.) “It sounds like it belongs on the Tony Hawk Pro Skater soundtrack.”

They’ve been at it since 2016, plenty of time for their chops to coalesce into a stinging whole. Add bassist Kyle Griffin and lead guitarist Shawn Murphy and you’ve got a heady combo of storytelling, shoegaze textures, infectious pop melody and an overall rebel-yell ambiance. This has resulted in five EPs, an acoustic collection and one full-length all worked out at their hometown Bottle Hill Recording Studio.
