Bruce and Patti Perform for the U.S. Equestrian Team

Jessica Springsteen took home the Silver Medal in Team Jumping for the United States Equestrian Team (USET) in the last Summer Olympics, held in Tokyo. This year’s events will take place in Paris at the Gardens of the Palace of Versailles. The United States Equestrian Team hosted a sold-out benefit at Five Rings Farm in Wellington Florida last Friday, January 19, to “raise critical funds to support the U.S. equestrian teams that are headed for the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games in Paris, France,” according to a USET press release.

“Victory in Versailles” featured The Legends Of The Voice band from the hit NBC-TV show The Voice, the highlight of which was Jessica Springsteen’s proud parents singing three songs. 1) Singer Barrett Strong first took “Money (That’s What I Want)” to #2 in 1960. Berry Gordy’s first Motown hit, which he co-wrote, was famously covered by The Beatles three years later. 2) “Twist And Shout,” co-written by Bert Berns, produced by Phil Spector, was originally recorded by The Top Notes in 1961. It flopped. A year later, though, The Isley Brothers, from Teaneck in Bergen County, got ahold of it and, as produced by Berns, took it to #17 a year later in ‘62. Then The Beatles, with the hoarse flu-infected voice of John Lennon, took it to #2. It was kept from the top of the charts by their own “Can’t Buy Me Love.” John’s vocal on this song is widely perceived to be one of the greatest vocals of the rock era.) 3) Bruce’s own “Glory Days” hit #5 in ’85.

“We are so thrilled to host the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic benefit event, ‘Victory in Versailles,’” said Bonnie Jenkins, Executive Director, USET Foundation. “The United States is home to some of the most committed and talented equestrian athletes in the world, and we’re very fortunate to be able to cheer them on as they compete on the greatest international stages. Now, our athletes’ many years of hard work will culminate in representing our country on the most impressive stage of all — the Olympic and Paralympic Games. We’re incredibly grateful to our dedicated friends and donors that help these Olympic and Paralympic dreams become reality.”
