BUSY BONGOS

The Bongos

Jem Records will release The Shroud of Touring: Live in 1985 on CD May 23. Recorded at The Tradewinds in Sea Bright, this sole Bongos live album was originally intended for an RCA Memorial Day ’85 release but has somehow remained unreleased until now. Talking Heads touring percussionist Steve Scales joins the band on this 24-track analog newly mixed project. Formed by frontman Richard Barone in 1981 with Rob Norris and Frank Giannini, its ’82 Drums Along The Hudson was followed up with Numbers With Wings in 1983—after guitarist James Mastro added his signature guitar to the sound—plus Beat Hotel in 1985. Now comes news that all four members—Barone, Mastro, Norris and Giannini—will reconvene at Wonder Bar in Asbury Park May 31 to celebrate the new album. Plus, a “secret show” will take place the next night in New York City June 1 at The Bitter End.
