Chinese Dance Company’s Free Newark Parade

Nai-Ni Chen Dance Company

The Nai-Ni Chen Dance Company –with the cooperation of the New Jersey Performing Arts Center (NJPAC) and the Newark Museum—will mount a free Dragon Procession downtown Newark from NJPAC on Center Street, through Military Park, to the Newark Museum on Washington Street via Halsey and Broad Streets on February 14 from noon to 1:00 p.m. in celebration of The Year Of The Horse.

Newark has always had a vibrant Chinese-American community. This Dragon Procession will be accompanied by traditional cymbals and drum music. Members of the public are invited to join the dancers and musicians. The Nai-Ni Chen Dance Company—based in Fort Lee and led by Asian-American women—is, according to an NJPAC press release, “dedicated to innovative cultural experiences that reflect the immigrant journey.  Known for its dynamic blend of Asian artistic traditions and American modernism, it tours nationally and internationally while advancing equity, representation and cross-cultural dialogue through dance.”

A performance inside the Newark Museum’s Main Hall is scheduled from 12:30 to 12:45 before the return route. Nai-Ni Chen will perform at NJPAC in an elongated presentation Feb. 14 and 15. For tickets, visit https://www.njpac.org/event/nai-ni-chen-dance-year-of-the-horse/.
