Debonair Music Hall In Teaneck To Stage Cancer Benefit June 5
The American Cancer Society will benefit from the proceeds of “Shine A Light,” a special concert on June 5 at the Debonair Music Hall in Teaneck. Every artist on the bill—and there are some great names here—will perform songs made famous by the Rolling Stones. Tony Trischka, 75, is, arguably, the greatest living banjo player. He was a key figure in the invention of the jam-band genre known as “jazzgrass.” The New York Times hailed him as “The Father Of Modern Bluegrass.” The Wall Street Journal called him the “Father Of Banjo Fusion” for his predilection of adding Americana, jazz, rock, blues, country and classical to the banjo bluegrass canon. Thus, National Public Radio said he was “The Great Banjo Liberationist.” He will share the stage with such notables as Martha Redbone, Jill Sobile, Catherine Russell and The Teaneck Wrecking Crew.
Trischka’s wife Assunta has organized tributes to Gregg Allman, David Bowie and Aretha Franklin. One of the reasons she chose the Stones is that guitarist Ron Wood and bassist Bill Wyman have battled cancer, and the disease took drummer Charlie Watts in 2022. The Relay For Life foundation of Fair Lawn and Glen Rock will host the event and raise further monies via sponsorships and raffles.
