Drummer Bob Bert To Release Solo Album

Bob Bert was the drummer of Sonic Youth and Pussy Galore. On June 12, Bar/None Records will be releasing his solo effort, Beach Bongo Bloodbath, recorded in Hoboken at Deep Sea Studio. The six originals and eight covers includes Mountain’s iconic 1970 “Mississippi Queen” and 1977’s “Love Comes In Spurts” by Richard Hell & The Voidoids. But there’s a catch. No guitars were used in the recording. Bert, who lives in Clifton, plays (almost) every instrument, spouts his poetry and utilizes a variety of drum patterns, various percussive toys, keyboards and theremin to create a sound montage of prog-punk proportions. Bert has had a fascinating career. He escaped Catholic School and went to work for artist Andy Warhol. He became a fine art silk-screen printer, the publisher of a respected fanzine (BB Gun), and an author (I’m Just The Drummer). Recently, he jammed with Michael T, Palmyra Delran and James Mastro of The Bongos at The Bowery Electric (see below).
