The Mercury Lounge, in New York City, on August 23, at 6:30, will host a free night of stories and music about longtime New Jersey music journalist Scott Schinder. (Donations will be accepted at the door to cover the cost of the event.) Former Maxwell’s co-owner Todd Abramson told Cindy Stagoff at www.njarts.net that “Scott Schinder was one of the most unique people I have known. His knowledge was obsessive and his sense of humor was inspiring. He was a huge presence in the New York music scene and he is sorely missed by many of us.”

Performers include The Health & Happiness Show, plus three duos:  George Usher/Doug Lacey, Tammy Faye Starlite/Jill Richmond and Mary Lee Kortes/Roscoe Ambel. (Artist list subject to change).

Fellow journalist Jay Lustig: “when I worked at the Aquarian Weekly’s East Coast Rocker edition in the ‘80s, many of the cover stories were by Scott writing under the name Harold DeMuir and they were almost always the best thing in the paper. He was a very sweet, friendly guy, incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about music.”

Schinder was stricken with a kidney-related ailment in 2016, undergoing seven years of treatment before succumbing to the disease on June 4 at the age of 61.
