Hoboken ‘Literary Weekend’ Back Again April 5-7

Little City Books

Little City Books will host its fourth annual “Literary Weekend” April 5, 6 & 7 on Bloomfield Street in Hoboken with numerous authors, among them Tia Williams, James Frankie Thomas, Kim Coleman Foote and the legendary Joyce Carol Oates, 85. Oates, the former Princeton professor, since the 1960s, has written 64 novels, 49 short story collections—some scary as hell like Haunted: Tales of the Grotesque (1994), The Doll Master (2016), Dismember (2017) and Night Neon (2021)—plus 12 novellas and plays, poetry and memoirs.

She has a penchant for the macabre: Do With Me What You Will (1973), Foxfire: Confessions of a Girl Gang (1993), Zombie (1995), The Tattooed Girl (2003), Missing Mom (2005), The Gravedigger’s Daughter (2007), Mudwoman (2012), Daddy Love (2013) and My Life As A Rat (2019) are the kind of page-turners you simply cannot put down. She will give you the chills. Her 2003 Rape: A Love Story is a perfect example. She knows no limitations and has no boundaries, combining Edgar Allan Poe, Stephen King, Clive Barker and HP Lovecraft into no-holds-barred descents into madness, evil and the underside of human existence. Yet many others of her literary gems—most notably her brilliant 1996 We Were The Mulvaneys—prove she’s no one-trick pony, thus is highly recommended as a starting point for the uninitiated. Then, and only then, should one sink down into her depths of depravity.
