Hundreds of AU Readies Fourth Album

Hundreds of AU by Nathaniel Shannon

They’re out of Sussex County and they’re called Hundreds of AU. Their fourth album, Life In Parallel, drops August 22 (Iodine Recordings). The first single, “Scorched Earth Harvest,” is already out. Between the twisted guitar noodling, the spastic drumming and the explosive finish, the single is a solid peek into what will come next month. The album’s lyrics are said to be about hopelessness, political unrest, the weight of loss, the dangers of nationalism, the strangled cry of remorse/suffering and the bleeding of youth into adulthood. Plus, it rhymes and you can headbang to it.

Musically, guitarists Paul Alan/Tom Schlatter, drummer John Beyer, singer Brian Burdzy and bassist Buzzz scrape the upper crust of hardcore, screamo, metal and punk. Recorded at their hometown Missile Silo Studios, they achieve a taut desperation morphing into a convoluted emotional stasis. It’s thick, sludgy, with deepening bass yet detailed treble. Obviously these boyz know what they’re doing and they’ll be taking their act out on the road starting July 18 in Montreal, July 19 in Vermont, and back home July 25 at The Sanctuary in Butler (Morris County).
