Joyce Carol Oates To Appear In Montclair To Discuss Her New Book

Joyce Carol Oates

Princeton Professor Joyce Carol Oates will discuss her new book, Double Trouble, in The Guild Room within First Congregational Church in Montclair on May 2 at 1:45 p.m. as part of the Montclair Literary Festival going on from May 2 to May 11.

Her Butcher, her Blonde and her Zero-Sum have all been covered in our “Jersey Bookshelf” section.

Oates has the capacity to make the hair on your arm stand up into goosebumps, triggered by your nervous system in response to fear, intense emotion or, in the case of Oates, sheer awe. According to Princeton University’s website, she is “extraordinary,” and “one of the most prolific writers in American literary history. Unusually, she has worked in a wide variety of genres—novel, short story, children’s fiction, detective fiction, horror fiction, drama, poetry, literary criticism, non-fiction, diary, plays and memoir.” She “rivals the 19th Century greats like Balzac and Dickens, and demands comparison with them in depth, range and power.” She has written almost 200 books.
