Middlesex County Jazz Fest Is Free in September
The third annual Middlesex County FREE Jazz Festival will take place September 24 to 28 in four towns. It kicks off in in Parker Press Park on Rahway Avenue in Woodbridge September 24 at 7:00 p.m. with the Woodbridge High School Jazz Choir under the direction of Lisa Romero before Brass Queens will undoubtedly blow everybody away at 7:30 for an hour. Headlining on this night is Elizabeth Bougerol of The Hot Sardines.
On September 26, at the Carteret Performing Arts Center on Washington Street, vocalist-actress-composer-WBGO radio host Lezlie Harrison will go through her jazz, blues, gospel, soul and personalized renditions of “The Great American Songbook” in a 90-minute set starting at 7:00 p.m.
September 27 will see a lineup of four acts in 3:45 starting at 5:30 p.m. at Metuchen High School in its 600-person capacity auditorium on Grove Avenue. First up is a company from the Metuchen Dance Center with the high school’s Jazz Combo, followed by the high school’s ensemble and orchestra. The AAPI (Asian American and Pacific Islander) Jazz Collective is next, followed by the headlining Sherrie Maricle and The DIVA Jazz Orchestra, the nationally-known all-female big-band.
It all ends on September 28 starting at 1:00 in the afternoon right in front of the New Brunswick Performing Arts Center on Livingston Avenue with Mike Noordzy’s Rutgers Alumni Jazz Orchestra. Next up is Newark’s own jazz-blues singer-producer-educator-WHCR 90.3 FM radio host Antoinette Montague. The final bow will be taken by trumpeter Conrad Herwig and his Latin Side All Stars.
