Morristown Musician Samarth Nagarkar To Sing at 24-Hour Live Brooklyn Raga Fest

Samarth Nagarkar Brooklyn Raga Fest

The 12th annual Ragas Live Festival starts at 8:00 p.m. Saturday October 14 and runs for an incredible 24 straight hours to Sunday October 15 at 8:00 p.m. at Pioneer Works in Brooklyn. It will also be livestreamed over Columbia University’s radio station WKCR-FM. Nineteen performances in a row with masters of the South Asia Classical sound will feature an international array of Ambient, Indian Folk, Minimalism and NewMusic from such practitioners of the raga tradition as Ramakrishnan Murthy, The Akkarai Sisters, Vicky Chow, David Cossin and Mark Stewart of The Bang On A Can All-Stars, the Georgian Polyphonic Choir Supruli and sitar legend Gaurav Mazumdar.

Premik Russell Tubbs, an original member of The Mahavishnu Orchestra, will perform a tribute to John McLaughlin on woodwinds. Kunal Gunjal will play the santoor in a duet for the first time in the U.S. with Suhail Yusef Khan Kunal on the sarangi (two traditional classical raga instruments). 

Morristown musician Samarth Nagarkar will perform. He specializes in Hindustani classical. He’s also an educator and author of Raga Sangeet: Understanding Hindustani Classical Vocal Music.
