New Jersey Performing Arts Center Goes Exotic for the New Year
Three exotic, esoteric, highly visual and musically stunning shows will grace the stage of NJ PAC in Newark to start the new year off in dramatic fashion.
On January 21, the State Ballet Theatre of Ukraine—with a cast of 55—will return to present Swan Lake, composed by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky in 1875. (Their NJ PAC debut last year of Tchaikovsky’s 1892 The Nutcracker was reviewed as “enchanting.”)
On January 26, MOMIX, the avant-garde Connecticut dance company spearheaded by Moses Pendleton, will wow the audience with Alice, inspired by Lewis Carroll’s 1865 Alice In Wonderland. Combining acrobatics, dance, illusion, music and special effects, the dancers morph into caterpillars right before your eyes! Of course, the White Rabbitt, the Mad Hatter and the Queen of Hearts will prance about the stage and Alice’s body will grow and shrink depending upon what pill she takes.
On February 1 & 2, Nai-Chen Dance, a frequent NJ PAC visitor, based right here in Fort Lee, will celebrate “The Year Of The Snake” in spectacular displays of folkloric Chinese dances, acrobatics and music all splashed in a kinetic movement of wildly colored costuming.
