Nils Lofgren Releases Second Single From Upcoming ‘Mountains’ album

Nils Lofgren has been in Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band for the last 38 years. The singer-songwriter plays guitar, keyboards, accordion, pedal steel and banjo. Before Bruce, he was a member of Neil Young’s band Crazy Horse. Before that he was the main man of the overlooked and underrated Grin. Grin formed in 1968 and put out four solid albums from ’71 to ’73, all worth checking out. On Lofgren’s new single, “Nothin’s Easy (for Amy),” that’s Neil Young warbling away on backing vocals. The song is for Lofgren’s producer wife. It’s the second single from Lofgren’s upcoming Mountains solo album due July 21. The first single was “Ain’t The Truth Enough” with Ringo Starr on drums.

Lofgren, with his usual aplomb, released a statement about the new song which reads, in part, that it’s “an apocalyptic landscape, the lone tulip left in the road. Walking hand in hand with my true love as compassion and common sense careen towards extinction, this ultimate gift and blessing demands hope. [Neil Young’s] haunted weathered soul completes this song.” The late David Crosby, legendary jazz bassist Ron Carter, vocalist Cindy Mizelle and the Howard Gospel Choir also appear on the album.
