Rahway Trumpeter Warren Vache, Jr. To Be Honored

Warren Vache

The Jazz Arts Project of New Jersey will honor Rahway trumpeter Warren Vache, Jr., 74, on April 30 at Triumph Restaurant & Brewery in Red Bank. Vache, in his long and illustrious career, has played with the Benny Goodman Orchestra and backed up singer Rosemary Clooney. Also honored will be educator-journalist Gilda Rogers who teaches African-American history at Brookdale Community College in Lincroft. (She is also Executive Director of the T. Thomas Fortune Cultural Center and writes for Jersey Jazz magazine.)

Vache comes from a musical family. His father played bass and his brother Allan plays clarinet, both professionally, proving once again that family is a key component of the Jersey sound, a fact that was pounded home in The Jersey Sound documentary. Vache will perform at the gala event with Will and Peter Anderson’s Roaring 1920s Orchestra, The Eddie Allen Quintet and The Jazz Arts Academy All-Stars.
