Say Hello To The Gumbo Gumbas!
Joe Grillo & Steve Schupsky, Vocals; Steve Rice, Accordion; Lars Wendt & Vinnie, Horns; Steph, sax; and Greg Novick, Bass, sound like they’re from Louisiana but they’re actually from Trenton and Ewing. As evidenced by their 2020 Back To NOLA debut, The Gumbo Gumbas play a delicious medley of authentic New Orleans Spaghetti Jazz with a side of Creole. Now add a mixture of Zydeco and Dixieland with a pinch of swinging Swamp Funk within a bubbling hot stew of Country, Rock’n’Roll and Rhythm’n’Blues. Cross-Generational to the Max, they’re fun, danceable and instantly memorable like a tattoo of the brain.
"Drifting Off and Dreaming of You" serves as a preview to their soon-to-be released Zydeland album. Written by TV and film composers Steve Rice and Ken Morrison (whose music can be heard in The Green Book, Passengers, The Big Bang Theory, The Handmaid's Tale and Sons of Anarchy), with a sterling arrangement and vocals by lead Gumba Joe Grillo, the song evokes a feeling of simpler times.
Mark The Dates! They’ll be rockin’ February 3 at the South Brunswick Municipal Complex at 7:00 p.m. and February 21 at Tim McLoone’s Supper Club at 6:00 p.m. in Asbury Park.
