Guitarist Scotti Hill, 60, from those favorite sons of Toms River, Skid Row, has lent his considerable talents to This Wild Darkness on its debut EP, The Notorious Memphis Rains, due October 25. Already considered something of a “super-group,” This Wild Darkness has within its ranks Arion Salazar of Third Eye Blind, Chuck Bartels of country singer Sturgill Simpson’s band, Jack Hues of Wang Chung, Jeff Schroeder of The Smashing Pumpkins and Slim Gambill of Lady A, all put together by Detroit singer-songwriter-guitarist Tommy Marz. Scotti says, “I couldn’t have been more flattered when Tommy asked me to contribute to this record and project. It’s been so much fun.” The idea for the band and the EP was first hatched at a 2021 charity show to raise money for the Sweet Relief Musicians Fund when Schroeder, Hill and Marz jammed out on “Cold Gin” by KISS. The event raised over $15,000 for roadies who were out of work due to the pandemic.
