South Orange International Blues Festival To Present ‘Women In Blues’ February 7

South Orange Blues Fest

Bassist Mike Griot from Essex County is our resident blues legend. He’s the curator for the South Orange Performing Arts Center. He’s plunked his funky bass for the last 30 years with such artists as East Orange’s Lauryn Hill, Newark’s Queen Latifah, Mtume, Harold Melvin’s Bluenotes, Common, Big Chief Donald Harrison, Jamie Foxx and Popa Chubby.  He formed the award-winning amalgam Blues People in 2020. Their 2024 debut, The Skin I’m in, was well-received, and now Griot will be presenting the second annual South Orange International Blues Fest February 7 keying in on “Women In Blues.”

Sue Foley, Alexis P. Suter and Rae Simmons are the three women. Griot says, “it has been my honor and privilege to deliver world-class blues festivals and concerts for almost 15 years. This year we celebrate three dynamic female artists. I hope you will join me this February.”
