Steve Forbert Is Living On ‘Daylight Savings Time’

Steve Forbert

On Daylight Savings Time, Steve Forbert’s 21st album, the longtime Asbury Park resident has written more songs that get under your skin to make you ask questions, to make you smile, and, every great once in a while, make you squirm. His sandpaper voice is a welcome respite from all the detritus out there. It’s like having an old friend visit. Between his melodic creativity and his oftentimes errant sentences (dig his delicious 1978 “What Kinda Guy”), he’s found a niche somewhere between folk, pop and Americana. He has a photographer’s eye for detail in catching just the right human moments to expound upon (like John Prine) and he infuses his acute observations with humor, insight, smarts, and a folksy rebel-yell of independence.
