The Love King, Raheem DeVaughn, To Give ‘20 Lessons of Love’
Raheem DeVaughn
Born in Newark 50 years ago, the Grammy Award-winning “Love King of Soul & R’n’B,” Raheem DeVaughn, will give his “20 Lessons of Love” to the nation starting November 21 in New York City and ending January 31 in Georgia. Besides hosting WHUR’s 96.3 “Original Quiet Storm” in DC, the singer-songwriter-philanthropist son of famed jazz cellist Abdul Wadud is set to tour in celebration of the 20th anniversary of his breakthrough The Love Experience album.
“Love is the common thread that unites us all,” he says. “With this tour, I want to create a space where people can not only celebrate love, but also learn, grow, and heal through it.”
DeVaughn—who has been compared to Marvin Gaye—heads his LoveLife Foundation, and its commitment to “enhancing the physical, mental and economic well-being of underserved communities of color,” according to his camp. He won the 2023 Biden Administration Presidential Volunteer Award, and the key to DC, for impacting HIV-AIDS awareness. Appearing at The White House that year for Juneteenth with Patti Labelle, he performed his hit cover of “Let’s Fall In Love,” originally by The Isley Brothers of Bergen County.
