BB Stevens Follows Up ‘Hoboken’ Debut with ‘Bullet’

BB Stevens

Last year, BB Stevens named his debut album Hoboken after his home town. He’s now followed it up with Bullet. Its obvious alt-rock appeal notwithstanding, it also melts into psychedelica, blues-rock and singer-songwriter smarts. Sung—like a demented cross of Tom Waits and Billy Idol—in a slur and a snarl, it’s a voice that sounds like it’s downed too many bourbons in too many bars. Yet listen to what this cat is laying down! The listener can groove, on a totally pleasurable one-dimensional feel-good trip, without glomming onto the deeper psychological ramifications of just what he’s trying to convey. But go beneath its surface, and you just might be forced to think about a few things.
