The last time we wrote about Guitarist-Producer-Arranger-Drummer-Bassist-Keyboardist Ben Vaughn, 71, from Camden, was 2023 when his Interpretations EP came out. (Dude’s also a radio host and podcaster.) Now comes his Magnetic East: The Deer Tick Sessions (Yep Roc Records), a collaborative effort with the Rhode Island band Deer Tick who provided the musical bed upon which Vaughn produced, arranged, composed and sang. With the release of its third single, “Rain Songs,” more and more people are picking up on this iconoclastic singer-songwriter.

“I love how this song came out,” he tells The Jersey Sound. It’s not just a song, it’s like a safe, comforting environment about a couple with a radio waiting out a rain storm.” Ben and his quintet will perform songs off the record on November 20 at Union Transfer in Philly when he opens for Low Cut Connie and Nov. 21 when he headlines Union Pool in Brooklyn.
