[CD Review] Attitude, Recorded in New Jersey, by Soulful Femme

Soulful Femme is Stevee Wellons and Cheryl Rinovato. Their Attitude was recorded at Fat Rabbit Studios in Montclair and produced by blues great Albert Castiglia. Another blues great, Tommy Castro, contributes to their scintillating cover of James Brown’s “Talkin’ Loud And Sayin’ Nothing.” “Insane Asylum” features singer/guitarist Kevin Burt. With former Jason Mraz drummer Michael Bram, bassist Matt Raymond, trumpeter Doug Woolverton, sax man Mark Earley and keyboardist Dave Gross on Hammond B-3 organ and percussion, tracks like “Dysfunction Funk” and the title tune are, in Stevee’s word, totally “bad-ass.” Their gumbo of delight encompasses blues rock, reggae and soul.
