The Gaslight Anthem Teams Up With Bruce
New Brunswick band The Gaslight Anthem hasn’t had an album out since 2014. That’s one reason History Books has been so hotly anticipated. Although not due until October, frontman Brian Fallon has released the title track, a duet with his buddy Bruce Springsteen. TGA opened for Bruce in England, and The Boss had him come up during his headlining set to help sing “No Surrender.”
“When Bruce Springsteen said I should write a duet for us, I think my head exploded,” Fallon recently told British journalist Tom Skinner in New Musical Express. “It will never get old to me that one of the greatest songwriters in the world, and the voice of one of my heroes, will forever be captured in a song I wrote at a small wooden desk in October in New Jersey.”

The song explores “the power in letting go of what no longer serves you. I think forgiveness is so important on so many levels, but I’ve learned that in some cases you need to cut ties with the people who’ve done you harm. Each song on the new album is a history book telling stories of the past, and all the things we’ve left behind, delving into everything from mortality to mental illness to the more precarious dimensions of human connections down to hitting every raw nerve. It’s truly a miracle to be able to do your art for a living. We’re thrilled to be back.”
