Christian McBride To Set Sail

Christian McBride’s World At Sea

Maybe this Montclair guy isn’t busy enough! He had time to sit before our cameras during production of The Jersey Sound documentary. He’s a legendary bassist and bandleader who helms not only The Christian McBride Big Band but two other bands as well: Ursa Major and Inside Straight. He‘s the Artistic Chair and board member of the non-profit Jazz House Kids which provides music education for the under-privileged. He teaches. He hosts “The Lowdown: Conversations With Christian” on SirusXM satellite radio. He’s the Jazz Advisor to the New Jersey Performing Arts Center in Newark. We’re probably missing a few other things he’s involved with but…

“Christian McBride’s World At Sea” will set sail in January of 2026 from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, for a week, with stops in Jamaica and the Grand Cayman Islands. All three of McBride’s bands will perform on the cruise as well as his wife, vocalist Melissa Walker. Other artists booked include Jose James, Cecile McLorin Salvant, Angelique Kidjo, Chris Potter, Sullivan Fortner, Benny Green, Greg Hutchinson, Christian Sands, Warren Wolf plus comedians Alonza Bodden and George Wallace. There will also be Interviews, panel discussions, instrument seminars, tutorials and tapings of his radio show.

McBride says, “I am gathering many of the musicians who have been a part of my life for years for seven days and seven nights of amazing music, camaraderie and joy. Enter my world and enjoy a funky good time..”
