Community Arts Center in Madison To Screen Jimmy Van Heusen Documentary October 6

Jimmy Van Heusen-min

The Madison Community Arts Center—10 Kings Road—will be the venue for a special October 6 3:00 Sunday afternoon screening of Swingin’ with Frank & Bing, a new documentary about the life and art of composer Jimmy Van Heusen. Creator-Documentarist Jim Burns plus producer-author-historian-archivist Chuck Granata will be on hand to converse, share anecdotes and answer questions while they show rare photographs of Frank Sinatra, Bing Crosby and other artists for whom Van Heusen wrote songs. Singer Anais Reno will perform some of his compositions, backed by pianist Jon Weber and guitarist Lance Conrad.

Van Heusen [1913-1990] wrote for Hollywood movies and Broadway musicals. Over 50 of his songs have become standards of the “Great American Songbook.” He wrote a lot for Sinatra (“Love And Marriage,” “High Hopes,” “My Kind Of Town,” “Come Fly With Me,” “Call Me Irresponsible”), becoming his drinking buddy in the process. In all, he authored over a thousand tunes, almost 600 of which were for films.
