Jimmy Vivino Signed To Gulf Coast Records

Jimmy Vivino by Ali Hasbach

Jimmy Vivino, 69, of the Paterson Vivino family that also includes the beloved Uncle Floyd (recovering from a stroke) and sax man Jerry Vivino, has been signed to Gulf Coast Records, the label led by St. Louis Guitar Hero Mike Zito. Jimmy, discovered by the legendary Al Kooper, is the multi-talented producer, singer, songwriter, keyboardist, guitarist, trumpeter, arranger, bandleader and sitar player who is in Canned Heat and The Fab Faux, led house bands for Conan O’Brien, started out in his Black Italians band, and worked with Levon Helm, Phoebe Snow, Laura Nyro, John Sebastian, Donald Fagen, James Cotton, Jimmie Vaughan, Odetta and Warren Haynes.

Zito: “Jimmy Vivino has been a hero of mine for over 30 years. His incredible musicianship, passionate vocals and powerful songwriting have always made him stand out. Jimmy is the consummate sideman, making everyone look and sound great. This new record, Gonna Be 2 of Those Days, puts Jimmy where I think he belongs: center stage. I am thrilled to have Jimmy Vivino join the GCR familia."

The album doesn’t come out until Valentine’s Day. The first single, “Blues In The 21st,” featuring Joe Bonamassa, lands January 10.

Vivino: “I’ve worked in every form of media in the business from movies and TV to Broadway, radio, recordings and concerts all the way down to funky little clubs. After all, I always say, ‘I’m just a Bluesman with a job.’ Being involved with the Conan show for 30 years has only deepened my experience and contact with people who stepped out of my record collection and into my life, and for that I am truly grateful.”

He will hit the road in the new year with Zito, Albert Castiglia and comedian-actor-singer Bill Murray.
