Kurt Baker Proves That Stevie Van Zandt Has Ears

Kurt Baker

One thing you can unequivocally say about Stevie Van Zandt is the cat has ears. Everything he puts out on his Wicked Cool Records label is certainly worth hearing. The same can be said for his Sirius Satellite radio show Underground Garage. So when news came out about “Secrets” by Kurt Baker, my ears widened in anticipation. I had heard his 2020 After Party album filled with the most powerful of pop, sprinkled with punk in an early Elvis Costello mold.

Singer-songwriter-producer-multi-instrumentalist Baker, 36, from Maine, lives in Spain, and used to lead The Leftovers from 2002 to 2011, before forming his own band.

“`Secrets’ is a song influenced by classic Motown-James Jamerson basslines,” he explains, “mixed with a bit of Big Star high-volume guitar. I love writing and recording catchy pop songs…so here’s another example of us doing what we do.”
