Lauryn Hill To Reunite With The Fugees
In celebration of what many critics call one of the greatest hip-hop albums ever, The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, released 25 years ago, Hill will tour internationally performing the album in its entirety. The East Orange rapper will also join forces with her former band, The Fugees, in selected cities. The album won five Grammy Awards (the first woman to achieve that feat). The Fugees, with Hill, Wyclef Jean and Pras Michel, surprised fans when they recently jammed in Philly together.
Hill has had her share of problems. She did a 90-day prison stretch for tax fraud in 2012. She’s shown up late for concerts. The respected Los Angeles Times Critic Robert Hilburn called her 2001 Unplugged set on MTV, “unhinged.” She angered a 2003 audience in Vatican City by mentioning the Catholic Church’s pedophilia scandal. Similar to what Sinead O’Connor did on Saturday Night Live by tearing up a picture of The Pope, she was right but was Vatican City the proper venue? The Catholic League covered the event with the headline “Lauryn Hill Flips Her Lid.”
The tour stops in Newark October 17 at The Prudential Center.
