Lips Of Strangers are ‘Too Long For Lovers’
Lips Of Strangers by Kyle Seagraves
Weird New Jersey magazine once cited New Milford in Bergen County as one strange place. Maybe its vibe nurtured Dream Pop enthusiasts Lips Of Strangers to pursue its highly stylized and synthesized shoegaze nostalgia. Their pop smarts has manifested itself into a second EP, Too Long For Lovers. Comprised of singer-songwriter-producer-multi instrumentalist Spencer Miles, keyboardist-vocalist Kate Victor, bassist Zach Abramson and drummers Tim Alworth/Jim Orso, their original material reeks of hippie glory drained through an ‘80s blender.
Miles says that after the band completed its first EP, “there’s a part of you that questions if you’ve written everything that you’ll ever think is decent. I knew we needed songs to play live because our debut only had four tracks, and, for me, the act of writing and producing is really just a means to an end to getting out in front of people and playing, so I knew I had to write. This added pressure and a few failed attempts can start to sow doubt so when I hit upon `Too Long For Lovers,” it was such a relief to me to feel like, `ok, I can still do this, I have more in the tank, and then the rest of the EP became a little easier to write at that point.”
