NJPAC Continues Free Monthly Jazz Jams at Rutgers Newark

Jazz Jams NJPAC

Who plays an instrument? Who sings? Who thinks they can hold their own in a small jazz room with professionals? If so, you might want to mosey on down to downtown Newark because The Rutgers University Institute for Jazz Studies, in cooperation with the New Jersey Performing Arts Center (NJPAC), will continue its series of monthly jazz jams in the new year on the Rutgers campus at the cozy Clement’s Place within Ruth Bader Ginsburg Hall on Washington Street, Newark. The 2025 edition of this free popular event will transpire the third Thursday of each month from January to June.

Musicians for the first two jams have been announced. January 16 will feature singer Alicia “Blues Eyes” Renee with bassist Ben Rubens and drummer Jeremy Warren. On February 20, pianist James Austin, Jr. and the band Luminescence will preside. Musicians for the March 13, April 17, May 15 and the final date of June 19 have yet to be announced. Do you think you have what it takes? Prove it! Seating is first-come-first-serve. For more info, visit NJPAC.org/series/jazz-jams
