Pantera to Headline The 10-Band ‘Great NOLA Trendkill’

Pantera frontman Phil Anselmo is going home to Louisiana to perform—for the first time in 30 years—at his hometown New Orleans Lakefront Arena and he’s bringing nine other bands with him. The two-day event on November 20-21 will also feature Down, Black Label Society, Power Trip, Corrosion of Conformity, Crowbar, Pig Destroyer, Eyehategod, Rade and Herakleion.

Pantera lead guitarist Zakk Wylde—born in Bayonne—will pull double duty as his other band, Black Label Society, is also on the bill. Anselmo will do the same with Pantera and Down.

Originally an ‘80s hair-metal band from Texas with four flop albums, Cowboys From Hell, in 1990, put brothers Vinnie Paul (drums) and Dimebag Darrell (guitar), with new frontman Anselmo and bassist Rex Brown, on the metal map. It was the 1992 Vulgar Display of Power that made ‘em stars. In 2004, Dimebag was shot and killed onstage while gigging with side project Damageplan. In 2018, Vinnie Paul died of heart failure.  

In 2022, Brown and Anselmo recruited Anthrax drummer Charlie Benante and former Ozzy lead guitarist Zakk to replace the dead brothers for the new lineup’s debut 2023 tour and they’ve been on the road ever since.
