Rachel Ana Dobken’s New Single Is ‘Cruel Cruel Cruel’

While busy working on her new “Acceptance” album for release next year, Asbury Park singer-songwriter-producer Rachel Ana Dobken has unleashed some cruelty in the shape of her new punk-rock single. The multi-talented songstress (who plays drums, guitar and keyboards) has a voice that bites. The song is a kiss-off to a feckless ex (“I know you want me but you’re so cruel cruel cruel”).

She’ll be hitting the road Wednesday for shows in Maryland, Delaware and New York. Dobken has deep rock roots, likes to keep things bangin’ and professes a love for Thin Lizzy. By day, she serves as Music Director for photographer Danny Clinch’s Transparent Gallery in Asbury.

“[We] were very intentional on the song’s tones,” she says, “including thick—slightly thrashy—drum sounds, and ripping/spooky delay-drenched guitars which lean into the slightly left-of-center atonal nature of the verse leading into the big pay-off of the chorus.”
