Rachel Zegler Faces Backlash Over Snow White Comments

Unknown teenager Rachel Zegler, 16, baffled science when she came out of Clifton in Passaic County six years ago to win the role of Maria in Steven Spielberg’s West Side Story remake for which she won a Golden Globe award. She then plowed right into her role in Shazam! Fury of the Gods before auditioning to play Disney sweetheart Snow White. She won the role but some of her comments are being used against her.

Now 22, she’s getting some real bad press including one headline that read “The Fall of a Hollywood Sweetheart: How Snow White star Rachel Zegler Went From Hero To Zero.” What could she possibly have said to turn so many people against her?

Besides saying how she “hated” the 1937 Disney Snow White, going so far as to call the character of the prince a “stalker,” she went on to say how her character in the new version is “not going to be saved by the prince and she’s not going to be dreaming about true love.” She reportedly demanded to play the beloved character as a Latina and doubled down on her controversial comments by declaring, “yes I am Snow White and no I am not bleaching my skin for the role.” (She even dissed the Shazam movie, saying that she only took the role because she “needed a job.”

Zegler also stars in the new Hunger Games film due in November. The new Snow White isn’t due until next year but studio bigwigs have been rumored to make sure she does not do any promotional interviews.
