Stephane Wrembel’s ‘Django a Go Go’ Fest Set For May 12-16

Stephane Wrembel

Guitarist-Composer Stephane Wrembel is readying his “Django a Go Go” Music Festival and Guitar Camp for May 12-16 with two New Jersey shows and two New York City shows in celebration of his Django New Orleans II: Hors Serie vinyl release and the United States debut of Gypsy Guitars II, the follow-up, 26 years later, of 1989’s Gypsy Guitars, by The Gypsy Guitar Trio (Angelo DeBarre, Serge Camps, Frank Anastasio). The events honor the enduring legacy of Django Reinhardt [1910-1953], the Belgian-born Romani guitarist-composer who invented “Gypsy Jazz” in France.

The four concerts—two at The Woodland in his Maplewood hometown and two at Symphony Space in New York City—are in tandem with a five-day immersive guitar camp. Wrembel is America’s leading Gypsy Jazz exponent with 21 albums in 23 years. Additional guests include Jean-Michel Pilc (piano), guitarists Sébastien FelixGismo Graf and David Gastine, Ari Folman-Cohen (bass), Nick Anderson and Scott Kettner (drums), David Langlois (percussion), Adrien Chevalier (violin), Joe Boga (trumpet), Nick Driscoll (clarinet and saxophone), Steven Duffy (sousaphone) and Sarah King (vocals).
