‘Disciple,’ after its Tribeca Film Festival Screening, debuts on MAX

Stevie Van Zandt

The Stevie Van Zandt documentary, Disciple, debuted on MAX June 22 after having its world premiere at the prestigious Tribeca Film Festival. Bruce Springsteen, Paul McCartney, Eddie Vedder, Bono, Maureen Van Zandt and Darlene Love are all in it as are clips from The Sopranos where Van Zandt plays Silvio Dante.

His political activism—Artists United Against Apartheid—is at the core of the film, and deep within his soul. The fact that he quit the E Street Band just as they were hitting big attests to his independence of spirit. “I walked my dog for seven years,” he says. Those who worked with him the closest tell the tales. As does SVZ himself…with humor. He’s a funny guy. And the fact that he’s a fountain of rock’n’roll knowledge going back decades makes his wry observations all the more salient.

“At the end of the day, Steve is a true believer,” says Bruce. With Steve, it’s all about the redemptive power of rock’n’roll itself. We only have one question. Who’s walking his dog now?
