STONED IN JERSEY

Jem Records Celebrates Jagger & Richard

New Jersey-based artists The Weeklings, The Grip Weeds, The Anderson Council, The Cynz and Paul Collins all contribute solid renditions of Rolling Stones songs on the terrific new Jem Records Celebrate Jagger & Richards. The brainchild of producer/label head Marty Scott, each song brings something new to these time-honored gems. With 13 tracks in all, dating from almost all eras of Stones history from 1964 to 2002, the tunes pop out like little pinpricks of pleasure. The key was choosing the perfect material from a mountain of songs and, man, the right songs were chosen. “Connection” is a nifty little rocker from 1967’s Between The Buttons that died-in-the-wool Stones connoisseurs have always loved. “Tell Me,” from their 1964 debut, is generally credited as being the first song Mick and Keith ever wrote together, back when they were still a blues cover band. “Let’s Spend The Night Together” is the infamous tune that CBS censors forced them to change to “Let’s Spend Some Time Together” when they performed it on The Ed Sullivan Show.
