By the time iconic folksinger Woodrow Wilson “Woody” Guthrie [1912-1967] came to New Jersey in 1956 to live for six years within the walls of the Greystone Park Psychiatric Hospital in Morris County, he had cemented his reputation. In fact, the opening scene of A Complete Unknown has Dylan visiting him and playing for him a song from his 1962 debut album called “Song To Woody.” Now comes news that 22 of the private 1951 recordings from a stash of 300 songs on 32 tapes will be released by Shamus Records as Woody at Home Volume #1 and #2.

Woody At Home Volume #1 & #2, by the greatest folksinger of them all, Woody Guthrie, will be released August 14 by his estate. It contains 22 tracks (20 songs and two poems). Thirteen of the songs, up to now, have only been studied via his written lyrics. Now, historians and fans can hear, for the first time, Woody recording them at his Brooklyn apartment in 1951 and 1952.

Starting tomorrow night, and continuing every Wednesday from 5:00 to 6:00 in Hoboken on Washington Street at Symposia Bookstore, Jersey City singer-songwriter-bassist Greg McLoughlin will be performing solo away from his Lemonade band through April 16. As a fundraiser for the American Civil Liberties Union, iconic folksinger Woody Guthrie [1912-1967] will be the subject of a “Song Celebration” at Hoboken’s 503 Social Club. Elena Skye and Boo Reiners of the Demolition String Band will host.

The exhibit is called “Music America: Iconic Objects from America’s Music History.” It opened February 17 and runs through August 11 at the LBJ Presidential Library in Austin Texas. Over 100 objects will be on display.
