The Bonnie Parker Band Revs It Up Again…Decades Later
An all-new, all-female version of The Bonnie Parker Band (with guitarist/keyboardist Denny Colt and drummer Hillary Blaze) will play its first gig at My Father’s Place on Long Island in Roslyn, New York, October 5. Parker, one of the first females to ever front a rock band back in the day, has always been a captivating performer, singing and writing songs with guys who shared her lust for solid rock’n’roll. They opened for Eddie Money, Grand Funk Railroad, Twisted Sister and Blue Oyster Cult. But it was during their headlining club shows in New Jersey where they really busted loose. During those heady times, she would live down the Jersey Shore in Margate.
They also toured internationally and even enjoyed a British hit single with their cover of PF Sloan’s “Eve Of Destruction” that singer Barry McGuire took to #1 in 1965. Parker also performed in TANG touring Europe and Scandinavia with Girlschool, Dokken, W.A.S.P., Garry Moore, Helloween and Crucified Barbara. Bonnie also played bass and sang in Corky Laing & The Memory Thieves. (Laing drummed in Mountain, the proto-typical metal band that played Woodstock in 1969.) She also wrote a rock opera, Playing God, with Laing, performing it in Finland.
